Carroll College's award winning Up 'Til Dawn student fund-raising effort for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be hosting its third annual rummage sale on Saturday, Jan. 31, in the lower level of the Carroll Campus Center. Up 'Til Dawn is offering the rummage sale to augment the money raised through a letter writing campaign that began last fall. All proceeds from these fund-raisers go to St. Jude. In 2007, Carroll's inaugural effort on behalf of St. Jude brought in over $36,000 and won the children's research hospital's nationwide award for best publicity campaign.
As for the rummage sale, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," says student coordinator Mason Preiss. "Meaning we will take anything people are willing to donate." The rummage sale will be accepting donations until Friday, Jan. 30. Toys, furniture, clothing, and books are especially popular items for the sale, though Preiss has seen all sorts of other used goods donated to the cause thus far. Doors open at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, and the sale continues throughout the afternoon "as long as people are coming through the doors," Preiss says. The public is welcome, admission is free and pricing is similar to a garage sale. All proceeds go toward helping children at St. Jude's receive lifesaving cancer treatment. No child is turned away from St. Jude because of inability to pay.
